During summer 2019, we booked a two-night stay at Hyatt Regency Embarcadero Centre, San Francisco, and we absolutely LOVED IT!
We’re a family of two adults and two kids, and for our annual family vacations, we usually prefer choosing hotels that are welcoming towards families and especially Muslim travelers.
Our overall vacation experience depends on a lot of things. And on top of the list of those important aspects of our holiday experience is a comfortable stay. That too depends on a lot of sub-factors; out of which hospitable staff attitude is a must!
Long story short, we would rate our stay a 9/10, and here’s a review of the best place to stay in San Francisco for families: Hyatt Regency Embarcadero Centre:
Staying at Hyatt Regency Embarcadero Centre with Family- Hotel Review
Because every hotel in the main San Francisco city was either extremely expensive, or third class, we initially booked DoubleTree by Hilton in Brisbane; which is another suburban city right near SFO international airport.
Later, we were lucky to find an excellent deal at Hyatt Regency Embarcadero Centre, for about the same price as DoubleTree by Hilton. The hotel facilities and star ratings were almost the same, but the location of Hyatt Regency was uncomparable.
Location & Accessibility from Hyatt Regency San Francisco
It is located right in front of the famous Bay Bridge, and some rooms even have windows overlooking the beautiful Ferry Building.
There are a few halal restaurants & coffee shops around the hotel. Additionally, it is surrounded by the historic ferry terminal for sea tours, the famous Bay Bridge, Embarcadero subway station, Farmers’ market, and most importantly the tram station for going to Fisherman’s wharf. China town, Union Square, and all the iconic skyscrapers of San Francisco are also located in this district; and are easily accessible on foot from this hotel.
Not to miss, the tram we mentioned above is the one that takes you to the Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, Exploratorium, Pier 34, and a lot more tourist attractions of San Francisco. The tram ticket is only for $2.75 for adults, and the kids ride free. It leaves every 10 mins from the F Market stop, and takes you to Pier 39 in just about 10 mins!
We would rate the location and accessibility of the hotel a 10/10!
Hotel Type & Facilities Review of Hyatt Regency Embarcadero Centre SFO
This particular hotel of Hyatt chain is specially made for corporate events/business travelers and is located in the financial district. But, not even once did we feel alienated during our stay. Maybe because we came across several other tourist families with young kids during our stay.
Since its a business hotel, situated in one of the most expensive areas of San Francisco, the lack of entertainment options/facilities is completely justified.
The only few hotel facilities include a 24/7 gym for men/women, and a snack bar at their majestic hotel lobby; which was our favorite spot to hang out, before and after heading out for tours.
Other than that, they had a ballroom, conference rooms, and an onsite restaurant for buffet breakfast and snacks.
Value for Money & How to Find the Best Deal at Hyatt Regency SFO
If you book at their regular rates, the hotel is quite expensive. However, there are some ways to save on bookings, such as: joining a rewards program or keeping an eye on deals online. But, the most cost-effective way we recently discovered is by availing friends and family discount. Which you can book through any acquaintance currently employed at the hotel chain. This discount is far better than any deal you’ll ever find on any booking website.
Our actual bill for a two-night stay (2 double beds+tax) would’ve cost about $570, but after discount, we got it for $350. Isn’t that amazing!
Food Options at Hyatt Regency Embarcadero San Francisco
Because the hotel is surrounded by multiple coffee shops and a few halal restaurants, we did not avail their breakfast deal. Breakfast + all-day snack bar package was for $75/day for 2 adults + 2 kids.
There is a halal burger shop and a shawarma grill right across the street from the hotel. We mostly ate there or hopped on to the tram for eating at Pier39.
Staff & Concierge Service
Staff at Hyatt Regency SFO is quite helpful and hospitable. They were friendly with kids, and that’s what matters to us the most.
The concierge desk is available all the time for assistance.
Since our flight was scheduled at 8 pm on our third day, for which we didn’t book a room, we requested a late check-out. We left our luggage at their lockers, and headed out for enjoying our last day at Pier 39.
Is the Hotel Muslim-Family-Friendly?
In non-Muslim countries and cities like San Francisco, searching for halal hotels often gives pretty vague results.
Hyatt Regency Embarcadero Centre may not be Halal at all, but their staff is definitely Muslim-friendly.
I didn’t face any awkwardness during our stay for having my Hijab on. Neither could anyone stop me from praying in our room, lol. Nor did we bump into any weirdo drunkards around, so I guess that’s all we were expecting after all.
Other than that, they didn’t have any play areas or children-friendly facilities, however, the grand lobby is itself enough entertainment space for kids.
Room Type: (2 Double Beds) Review
Out of the few room options available at Hyatt Regency Embarcadero Centre San Francisco, we chose a room that had two double beds. It was perfect for a family like ours.
The room was spacious, and the window views were incredible.
The room was equipped with all the basic necessities any 4* hotel would offer; including a work table, T.V, coffee maker, mini-fridge, etc.
What we liked most was the spaciousness of the room and the separate wardrobe + luggage area adjoining the bathroom. I must admit, it was really useful in keeping the room clutter-free.
