JW Marriott Phuket Resort at Mai Khao Beach Hotel Review
While I was doing my hotel research on booking.com for our summer family vacation in Thailand, it was almost impossible to find a reasonable resort that fulfilled all our requirements and fitted in our budget too. That’s when I ran into this blog by Ciao Bambino who had written a detailed hotel review of JW Marriott Phuket, and I was convinced at once.
We’re a family of two adults and two preschoolers, and here’s a detailed review of our stay at this resort. Enjoy!
How Good is J.W Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa for a Muslim Family Vacation
On a scale of 1-10, I would rate JW Marriott Phuket between 7-8 for being halal and family friendly. And by Muslim friendly I mean:
- The overall atmosphere of the resort was family-oriented. Majority of guests were with little kids and elderly parents, which means that the resort facilities are specially designed for a convenient and relaxing family getaway.
- There was no specific prayer area for Muslims, however, you can freely pray inside your room or even in the sitting space outside the room, so this one definately ranked as a halal hotel in Phuket.
- The only people who were having alcohol were tired parents, and they only were seen to be relaxing at the swing seaters late at night
- There are no private pools, instead, they have a massive kid’s pool, a hot tub for elders right beside the kid’s pool, and a separate pool for adults.
- There were Muslim showers in all the washrooms, which are a total blessing that make JW Marriot a great halal hotel in Phuket.
Convenient & Family Friendly Location
The first query that usually lands up in the google search bar when Muslim mommies and daddies start planning their Thailand family vacation is “Where to stay in Phuket Thailand with kids”, “Phuket halal family hotels and luxury resorts” or “Best family beach in Phuket”.
Keeping all these halal and family-friendly hotel filters in mind, the location of JW Marriott is spectacular. Located at Phuket Laguna, JW Marriott family resort is just a short 10-minute drive from Phuket airport and is definitely one of the top Phuket beach resorts. Although the Phuket Laguna area is about an hour drive to the main Phuket town and the famous Patong beach tourist area, it is undoubtedly the best place to stay in Phuket for families. Staying closer to the airport is always a plus point when you gotta catch a morning flight with kids. Also, by staying in this family-friendly area, you will avoid all of Patong’s cheap party crowd.
The hotel has a private beach right in front of the resort, which means that you can enjoy arowd-free family time at Mai Khao beach for as long as you want. Also, there’s a lovely swing at the beach overlooking the beautiful ocean, which can accommodate a small family.
At a 5 minute pleasant walk from the resort, there’s a small marketplace called the Turtle village where there are some nice Thai restaurants, handicraft shops and a supermarket for the usual groceries you might need for your Phuket family trip such as baby milk, diapers, etc.
JW Marriott Phuket Resort’s staff and concierge service was very courteous, hospitable and efficient. In fact, out of the three cities we visited on our Thailand family vacation (Phuket, Bangkok, and Pattaya), Phuket’s people and the staff attitude was the best amongst all. All the smiling faces would give your little kids priority treatment and promptly respond to your requests even if it’s late.
Variety of Restaurants and Food Options
There are about 10 restaurants/snack bars inside the hotel where you can enjoy meals and drinks from your favorite cuisines such as Japanese, Italian, Western or Thai.
The good part for Muslims is that they serve Halal chicken in all of their restaurants, whether it be steaks at the famous 5 star Andaman Grill or Italian Pizzas at Cucina. Which also means that kids can enjoy nuggets by the pool, woohoo! Only a Muslim mama can understand the joy of being able to eat nuggets and fries on a hot pool day in a non-muslim country 😀
There are also several halal meaty things to eat from their complimentary breakfast buffet menu along with the fresh tropical fruits and smoothies.
As long as a place has some halal food available, is clean, and has shattaf/muslim showers in the toilets, I consider it as a halal hotel.
Outstanding Kid’s Facilities
My most favorite part of Muslim family travel blogging is where we share kid’s entertainment, places to visit and things to do as a family. And in that matter, JW Marriott Phuket wins at being one of the best family-friendly resorts in Phuket because of its amazing kids’ facilities.
Apart from the magnificent 3 level kid’s pool that has a couple of slides and sand turtles as well, there is also a huge kid’s club. Comprising of a soft play area, a play station zone, movie theatre, art & crafts corner and a teen’s zone, this kid’s club is the best one we have seen so far.
Our kids absolutely loved spending time there and made lots of new friends from all over the world.
Moreover, the kid’s club also has various fun activity session for children every morning after breakfast such as; face painting, dyeing batik t-shirts, sea shell photo frame making, turtle feeding at the beach and many more.
Value For Money
We booked a family room for about $200/night, which was quite reasonable for the luxurious and massive space to unwind. Also for the family-friendly atmosphere and all the facilities of this resort.
It is surely one of the best Phuket luxury resorts available at a decent price.
The only thing expensive was the food in JW Marriott’s onsite restaurants.
Spacious Family Rooms
Initially, we had booked a garden view family room (which was the cheapest option available on booking.com). Luckily, it was upgraded on our arrival to a deluxe room near the kid’s pool for our convenience.
The room had two queen beds with the fluffiest pillows ever. Our kids enjoyed playing in the Thai massage mat/day bed area adjoined with our room which had huge windows overlooking the fountain outside.
